The current state of research in the domain of strategic human resource management (SHRM) shifts focus towards the actual implementation of SHRM practices in organizations. The extent to which HR actually plays its strategic role and applies the widely discussed SHRM practices is in fact determined by several elements. Based on an empirical study of the challenges perceived by HR managers in Slovakia, this article aims to list and rank the most influential factors that in practice determine the actual implementation of SHRM practices and the strategic position of HR.
